Water is usually associated with fun and life, but it is also a substance that could potentially kill us if we are not careful. Even simple activities such as swimming can get dangerous when our mind is not completely present. Here are some tips that can help you have a positive experience in the water, every single time.
Learn How to Swim Well, But Do Not Count Just On That
Learning how to swim is always useful because it can pull you out from a number of risky occurrences. Near the shore, in calm waters, knowing how to swim well could be enough, but do not count on your swimming abilities if you are taking part in adrenaline activities such as rafting Soča or Soca canyoning. During rafting Soča and Soca canyoning, a lot could go wrong even if you are a confident swimmer, so it is absolutely necessary to wear a life jacket in such circumstances. You never know!
Inform Yourself
Checking the weather before your water experience takes two seconds, but it can make all the difference. You do not want to be caught in a storm in the middle of the ocean and you do not want to start your day of rafting Soča or Soca canyoning in the middle of the hottest day of the year without sunscreen and proper headwear. Informing yourself can save your life one day!
Have Backup
If possible, do not go out into the open sea or down a fast river by yourself. Take someone with you, they can help you if something goes wrong or call for help if you are unable to. If you absolutely insist on going on your own, have a way of calling for help. Do not tempt fate, a lot can go wrong at any given moment, so take a cell phone, ensure your radio connection works and only then start your journey.
